Galeana Foundation Grant Awarded
Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida, Inc. recently received a grant in the amount of $ 20,000 from The Elizabeth K Galeana Foundation.
The grant will help in continuing the mission and development of Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida, Inc. by supporting the agency’s Kids Being Kids program, which helps children in foster care with a Guardian find some form of normalcy by providing such things as; a warm cozy bed known as the Bedz for Kidz program; a happier birthday, supplemental clothing, participation in sports, arts, and social gatherings; Academic tutoring; Summer camps and unmet medical needs, many things that most children take for granted.
Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida, Inc., is a nonprofit 501 C 3 agency supporting Florida’s 20th judicial circuit Guardian ad Litem program in Lee, Collier, Charlotte Hendry and Glades counties. The agency provides the resources needed for the Guardian Program to recruit, train and retain volunteers who advocate and become the “voice” for the abused, neglected and abandoned children in court, the child welfare system and in the community.
According to Armando Galella, VFK Executive Director, “During the fiscal year ended on June 30 we were able to meet some of the needs of over 500 children under court supervision in our communities. 125 received beds, cribs, bunk beds and associated bedding. We raised nearly $80,000 for this effort. The impact of the Galeana gift is significant and we are grateful.”
Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida, Inc was established in 1983. Its primary purpose is to recruit, train and retain Guardians. Presently, only 65% of the 1588 children have a Guardian ad Litem.
