Ruth’s Chris Wine Tasting & Auction Raises $7,300 for Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida

Ruth’s Chris General Manager Mark Porter and Shannon Porter hosted a Wine Tasting & Auction on December 3, raising over $7,300 For Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida.

According to Mark, “These proceeds will help insure the children have a Guardian and the resources to have normalcy in their young lives!”

Currently, in Southwest Florida, approximately 40% of the 1,442 children needing a Guardian ad Litem volunteer advocate do not have one. The challenge – 575 children don’t have an advocate, a “voice” in court, school and the community!

Darlene Grossman, Executive Director of Voices for Kids, states, “Our abused, neglected and abandoned children are so very fortunate to have the support of Ruth’s Chris. Business support such as theirs helps us make a profound difference in the children’s lives.”

Voices for Kids of Southwest Florida is a non-profit agency supporting Florida’s 20th Judicial Circuit Guardian ad Litem Program-Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry and Glades counties. The Guardian ad Litem Program supports volunteers who advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children in court, the child welfare system and the community. VFK’s mission is to ensure every abused, neglected, and abandoned child in Southwest Florida has a Guardian ad Litem volunteer (GAL) and every GAL has access to financial assistance and resources through the Kids Being Kids Program for meeting the child’s health, educational and social needs, not provided by any other source.
